Nit de Foc Festival in Mallorca… One Crazy Night Dancing with the Devil!

Nit de Foc is one of the craziest festivals in the world! The Night of Fire is celebrated on the Spanish island of Mallorca in honour of John the Baptist, and it's not what you might expect from a religious festival! Join us as we dance with the devil at the Nit de Foc Festival in Mallorca...

Horned demons are attacking us, covering us in burning hot sparks. A dragon is breathing fire all around. And our insides are shaking from the beating drums with the noise filling through darkness.

We're at Nit de Foc festival in Mallorca, and it's one of the craziest and best nights we've had!

What is the Nit de Foc Festival in Mallorca?

The celebrations are based on a Christian adaptation of the Pagan ritual to welcome the Summer Solstice and is held on 23rd June so book up for the next one now!

After a day of sightseeing in Palma and having some great food and drinks, we head to Parc de la Mar close to the Cathedral for 10pm, excited, but with no idea of what's about to come!

The street is lined with market stalls and it's super busy with people shopping, eating and drinking.

And as we join them and shop at some of the stalls, as the start time of 10.30pm nears, the crowd is starting to move towards the main area.

"Quick come on, look over there!" Sneha shouts... as a procession of horned demons carrying fire walk through the archway on the opposite side of the water...

We rush through the crowd to get right into the action, just as a dragon starts to shower the crowd with fireworks!

The demons come next... running towards us with flaming sticks and throwing the sparks over our heads.

The beat of the drums surround us and the screaming of the fireworks is almost deafening, and it feels like we've stepped right into hell (a seriously fun hell though!)

With the main celebrations over we head back to our hotel and find the beach outside is still full of people celebrating there too.

We had no idea what to expect from the Nit de Foc festival. We thought it would be a fairly steady procession through the old town of Palma. But instead it's one of the craziest, weirdest, and most fun nights we've had!

Where is Nit de Foc Festival Celebrated in Mallorca?

Celebrations take place all over the island, with friends and families gathering on beaches to party together. But the main celebrations take place in the capital Palma de Mallorca, where we attended the fire festival.

The action takes place in Parc de la Mar, on the seafront and underneath the amazing Cathedral de Mallorca. It's an incredible setting, seeing demons dance and throw fire, with the smoke from fireworks rising and obscuring the lit up Cathedral. It's so cool!

• You don't need to book tickets or anything, the festival is free to visit and there aren't tickets.
• If you want a good view you'll need to reach early to beat the crowds.
• If you want to dance with the devil then wear old clothes as you'll be showered in sparklers.
