Titanic Belfast is an amazing, immersive attraction dedicated to the story of the Titanic… from its construction to its tragic end and lasting legacy. But this isn’t just any exhibition… it transports you back in time, making you feel like you’re on board the Titanic, experiencing the excitement of its launch and the tragedy of its sinking.

It’s without a doubt one of the best attractions we’ve ever visited, and in this blog, we’ll take you through why it’s an absolute must-visit!

A Journey Through Nine Interactive Galleries

Titanic Belfast features nine immersive galleries, each one drawing us deeper into the Titanic’s story. With every step, we uncover fascinating details… from original artefacts to letters, diaries, and even a thrilling ride through the shipyard!

Make sure you grab a map when you arrive… some artefacts are listed and make sure you find them, each one has an interesting story to tell!

1. Boomtown Belfast… The City That Built Titanic

Our journey begins in 1900s Belfast, walking through life-sized street scenes and watching the shipyard workers go about their daily lives.

The exhibition takes us behind the scenes of how Belfast became the world's leading shipbuilding hub and why Harland & Wolff decided to build the Titanic in Belfast.

From original letters of approval to early design sketches, we see lots of original documents and artefacts.

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ Interactive displays exploring Belfast’s industrial past

✔ Original documents to see and read

2. The Shipyard… Building the Titanic

And then we step into the Harland & Wolff shipyard, where the Titanic starts to take shape.

Even with no knowledge of shipbuilding, this section is absolutely fascinating. The exhibition breaks down every stage, from laying the keel to riveting, plating, and assembling the giant propellers.

One fact blows our minds… Titanic was built with 3 million rivets, all hammered by hand!

Then comes the Shipyard Ride… a mini ride that takes us into the lives of the shipyard workers, complete with sights, sounds, and even the feeling of being in the depths of the yard. We can’t imagine how hard their life was spending months in the heat, darkness, and deafening noise, and it makes us appreciate this engineering feat even more.

We hear stories of the men who worked here, some of whom never made it home. If someone died on the job, workers simply said, "He’s away to the other yard."

3. The Launch… A Moment of Celebration

As we step off the ride, the atmosphere shifts… we’re no longer in the dark, gritty shipyard. Instead, we’re standing on Launch Day, 31st May 1911.

We take a seat and listen to the original announcement as footage from the day plays on the screen. People cheer, wave their hats, and celebrate as Titanic slides down the slipway into the water.

Looking out of the gallery’s glass windows, we see the exact slipway where Titanic was launched. And we get to see actual tickets and read so many different stories of the people looking forward to their trip on the Titanic!

As an added bonus, the view from the gallery is also one of the best views of the famous Samson and Goliath cranes from anywhere the city.

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ Standing at the original slipway where Titanic and her sister ship Olympic were launched

✔ Watching real footage from the event

4. The Fit-Out… Life on Board Titanic

Now, we step inside the Titanic itself. And it’s breath-taking.

The 3D experience makes it feel like we’re walking up the Grand Staircase… yes, the one where Jack first sees Rose in the movie! The luxury is unreal, and we can only imagine what it must have felt like to be a first-class passenger experiencing it for real.

But Titanic wasn’t just about first-class. We look into life-sized cabins from all three classes, and surprisingly, even the third-class cabins seem decent… better than most ships at the time!

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ Life-size recreations of first, second, and third-class cabins

✔ The 3D Grand Staircase experience

5. The Maiden Voyage… Titanic Sets Sail

Here, Titanic comes to life.

We read real letters from passengers, full of excitement and hope for the journey ahead. Some write about the grand dining rooms, others about the huge portions of food… one menu features "Round of Spiced Beef," which we’d definitely try, and "Corned Ox Tongue"… which we’d definitely skip! 😅

A huge digital map traces Titanic’s day-by-day progress across the Atlantic. Watching it, we feel the excitement… but we know what’s coming next.

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ Real letters and diary entries from passengers

✔ Titanic’s voyage mapped out in real-time

6. The Sinking… A Night of Tragedy

Then, the excitement turns to dread.

We hear the distress calls. We read the final messages from passengers. And it was true that the orchestra kept playing until the end (although we’re not sure about the third-class passengers not being allowed to come up).

One wall displays the names of the 1,512 people who lost their lives, along with the 713 survivors. We stand in silence, staring at the list, realising that each name had a story.

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ Audio recordings of survivors’ last moments

✔ The chilling memorial wall

7. Never Again… Lessons Learned from Titanic

This gallery covers the aftermath of the disaster and the major changes in maritime law that followed.

And then we learn something shocking… the closest ship ignored Titanic’s distress calls because the operator was asleep. If he had been awake, so many lives could have been saved.

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ it’s hard to miss the signboards that state the reasons why Titanic sunk and the changes in the laws that followed

8. Ballard’s Quest… Discovering Titanic’s Wreck

This section builds up the thrill of the search and how the Titanic was eventually found in 1985, making us feel like part of the expedition.

Dr. Robert Ballard’s search for Titanic feels like a Hollywood adventure. Finally, after years of searching, he and his team discover the wreck—and we see real footage from the expedition.

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ Footage and images from Dr. Ballard’s expedition

9. The Ship of Dreams… Titanic’s Legacy

The final gallery has the real WOW moment… a massive glass floor projection of the wreck, making it feel like we’re standing right above the Titanic itself!

There are more artefacts from the Titanic to see here too, like a fur coat and a violin which survivors were wearing or brought with them onto the life-boats.

The sinking and legacy of the Titanic gave so many lessons to the shipping industry and transformed maritime safety so that we can safely travel on ships today… but we owe so much to all of those people who lost their lives!

TrovenTrippers Highlights:

✔ The glass floor projection of Titanic’s wreck

Bonus: SS Nomadic… White Star Line's Last Remaining Ship

Before we leave, we step onto SS Nomadic—the last remaining White Star Line ship. It carried Titanic’s first-class passengers from shore to ship in Cherbourg, making it the last vessel in the world with a direct link to Titanic.

Final Thoughts… Is Titanic Belfast Worth Visiting?

Absolutely. Titanic Belfast isn’t just an attraction—it’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Shipyard Ride (The Shipyard)

Grand Staircase & Cabin Replicas (The Fit-Out)

Real-time Sinking Animation (The Sinking)

Glass Floor Wreck Projection (Titanic Beneath)

SS Nomadic (For a real-life Titanic experience)

What facilities are at the Titanic Belfast?

Inside the Titanic Belfast there is The Gally Café where you can get pastries, ready to go sandwiches, and hot and cold drinks. We visited at their earliest time slot so had a croissant, muffin, and very good coffee!

There's also The Pantry serving hot food, and outside is Hickon's Point, a themed early 1900's pub.

And of course we couldn't visit somewhere and not pick up some souvenirs... there's a huge gift shop where you can get pretty much anything and everything Titanic themed!
